This week Gwilym and Stu have been running a Mountain Leader Training course in Snowdonia between them. Gwilym had the drier start to the week and Stu the wetter end. 4 candidate all super keen to be out in the mountain whatever the weather and now heading off to get some more experience and prepare for assessment.
Again this week, Gwilym and Stu were working on a Mountain Leader Assessment course in Snowdonia with 4 candidates. A mix of weather during the week but all very happy with the end result. Well done all
This week, Gwilym, Stu and Dewi have been running a Mountain Leader Training course for 10 candidates in Snowdonia. Some challenging weather at times but visits to Ogwen, Llanberis Pass and the Snowdon Massif allowed us to get loads done and send 10 ML trainees into the world to consolidate before the go for assessment
This weekend Gwilym has been in Snowdonia running a Mountain Skills course for 4 candidates. Visits into Llanberis Pass and Tryfan for some different terrain and we looked at navigation, moving in rocky terrain, the environment and much more over the 2 days
Yesterday and today, Gwilym has been in Snowdonia with Long Term Development Client Andy who is preparing for his Mountain Leader Assessment. Some time playing with ropes, navigating in the dark and a day out near Crimpiau saw them avoid the worst of the weather and get lots of time in revisiting essential Mountain Leader skills
Gwilym has just finished running some Mountain Leader re-assessments and we are pleased to report that both candidates passed. Well done Matt and Jamie who both appear in the photo on the back our our van.
Simon and Stu have just started running the Mountain Leader Training course that we have 9 candidates on and Jacob will be joining Gwilym tomorrow to start a full assessment of 8. It is looking like a busy week. Let's hope the weather is not too unkind.
This weekend, Gwilym was running a Mountain Skills course for 3 candidates in Snowdonia. A dry day and a wet day saw lots of navigation practice as well as learning about weather, the environment, hazards and how to enjoy the mountains even when it is wet and windy.
This week we have been in Snowdonia with 8 candates on Mountain Leader Training and 4 on Assessment. A staff team comprising of Gwilym, Keith, Jacob, Stu and Dewi have been working with candidates over the week in various parts of the National Park. The training over 6 days and assessment over 5 went to The Carneddau, The Glyders, Snowdon and Llanberis Pass. A mix of sun and rain over the week gave some really mixed navigational conditions. As this is a a double course entry, I have added more pictures than normal.
Well done to the new ML's who passed this week - go and have some more adventures
Over the last 6 days, Gwilym and Jez have been running a Mountain Leader Training course in North Wales for 5 candidates. The weather started well but ended with storm "Doris" which made conditions challenging for the expedition. Days out in The Glyderau and Carneddau looking at navigation, steep ground, the environment, leadership, emergencies and much more gave the candidates loads of ides to take forward into their consolidation period.
Gwilym has been in North Wales with long term client Andy. A dry day on Sunday saw Andy leading a number of routes under Gwilym's guidance including a number of Severes. Well done Andy. Monday was wet and windy so it was time to play with 1:25k, 1:50k and 1:40k maps in the Llanberis Pass to stay low
Jez and Andy (who is on our Long Term Development Scheme) were out on a mini adventure scrambling, wild camping and practising navigation in Snowdonia, in some awesome weather.
After making their way up to Cwm Glas they set up their tents to lighten the load and then climbed upwards to do a traverse of Crib Goch from the North Ridge approach. Being up there in the early evening was great, super quiet with near perfect conditions. After dinner and a power nap they did some night nav before bed time.
Day two saw them staying low and practising more micro navigation going from small contour feature to small contour feature! After that they had a quick trip to Union Rock so Andy could look at a few rigging examples as he works towards his SPA.
Lots covered and lots learnt!
Today Gwilym was back out with Beth who is on the Wet and High Adventures Development Scheme. After a great day on two wheels yesterday they were on foot today looking at navigation in the mountains. After some micro nav in the Cwm Glas area they though they might as well pop up to the summit of Snowdon before making their way down via the Gyrn Las spur.
