A mixed weather weekend for Gwilym and Mark on Dartmoor for the last three days working on a Hill and Moorland Leader assessment with 6 candidates
Day one was very wet, day two very windy and day 3 was a bit of both.
It was interesting to see the damage cause by last weeks fires but hopefully this will regenerate soon and fingers crossed the loss of ground nesting birds has not been to tragic.
Gwilym, Stu and Si have been busy in Snowdonia this week assessing Mountain Leaders. With 7 candidates on a full 5 day assessment and 2 candidates coming back for a 1 day re assessment it was pretty busy for the team. The weather was awesome (almost too nice in fact meaning the teams had to stay up very late for some night navigation) and we are very pleased to report there are 7 new Mountain Leaders heading off into the mountains to inspire their own groups. Well done
This weekend Gwilym has been at The Dewerstone and Chudleigh with 2 teenagers on an Intermediate Rock Skills course. Lots of skills covered and lots of climbing done
This is our first Rock Skills course and we are looking forward to running more in the future
This week Gwilym and Stu have been running a Mountain Leader Training course in Snowdonia between them. Gwilym had the drier start to the week and Stu the wetter end. 4 candidate all super keen to be out in the mountain whatever the weather and now heading off to get some more experience and prepare for assessment.
Thanks to Andy and Mark for assisting Gwilym out on the wet and windy moor and to Jamie for helping out in the warm and dry climbing wall.
As well as an assessment, we have also had a Mountain Leader Training course running this week with Gwilym, Stu, Dewi and Sam all involved with teaching the trainees. After getting a battering from the weather on the last day of the course, all 6 are now gaining further experience before coming back for assessment at a later date.
Again this week, Gwilym and Stu were working on a Mountain Leader Assessment course in Snowdonia with 4 candidates. A mix of weather during the week but all very happy with the end result. Well done all
This week, Gwilym and Stu have been up in Snowdonia running a Mountain Leader Assessment.
A warm and dry start to the week turned wetter and colder by the end but gave some challenging navigation on the middle day of the expedition
A good effort from the candidates over the 5 days
This weekend, Gwilym has been on The Quantock Hills and at Steart Marshes delivering a Lowland Leader Training course.
Keen candidates, lovely weather and all just a few miles form the office. Over the weekend they saw some Deer, Lapwings and many more of our British Wildlife
This weekend, Gwilym has been on Dartmoor directing a Rock Climbing Instructor Assessment with 4 candidates. With visits to Hound Tor and Chudleigh during dry Saturday and Dart Rock followed by The Dewerstone during wet Sunday, the candidates had plenty of varied locations to demonstrate their skills.
Over the last three days, we have had a number of candidates on a Hill and Moorland Leader Assessment. Day 1 and 3 on Exmoor with Gwilym and day 2 on Dartmoor with Jay saw the candidates put through some pretty wet weather to test their skills. Well done to those who passed but good efforts put in by all.
For the last 3 days, Gwilym and Mark have been on Exmoor with 7 candidates for a Hill and Moorland Leader Training course. With a combination of hot Sun and a late even lightning storm they managed to complete lots of navigation and leadership training in one of the best moorland locations in the UK.
This weekend Gwilym was on The North Wessex Downs with 3 school teachers who were being assessed for their Lowland Leader award ready for the upcoming DofE season. One hot and sunny day followed by one wet and breezy day saw the candidates put through their paces with navigation, knowledge and leadership tasks before finally getting their results over a drink. 3 out of 3. Well done
This week, Gwilym, Stu and Dewi have been running a Mountain Leader Training course for 10 candidates in Snowdonia. Some challenging weather at times but visits to Ogwen, Llanberis Pass and the Snowdon Massif allowed us to get loads done and send 10 ML trainees into the world to consolidate before the go for assessment
This weekend Gwilym has been in Snowdonia running a Mountain Skills course for 4 candidates. Visits into Llanberis Pass and Tryfan for some different terrain and we looked at navigation, moving in rocky terrain, the environment and much more over the 2 days
This weekend Gwilym has been on The Quantock Hills and the Steart Marshes running a Lowland Leader Training course for 6 candidates. A mix of hills on day one and a maximum of 10 metres of ascent on day 2 gave various opportunities for learning the skills required to be a good leader in those environments
